Poco
('A Little Bit')

Alex was at Patas clinic in Pueblo Porto Aventuras, on Friday afternoon with Dr. McLucas and a couple of team members, when Lucia came running into the clinic, breathlessly saying, "A man is going to shoot some puppies!"
She ran to find the puppies scattering in a nearby lot, and was able to capture two of them, before the others ran off.
These two puppies came back to Colorado on the plane - after some major hassles at the airport. The puppies, who are somewhere between ten and twelve weeks, were not well socialized. The largest of the two became quickly acclimated to human attention, and was thrilled to be fed and cuddled. The littlest of the two cried whenever she was touched and was far more shy and frightened.
When they arrived at Alex's house on Sunday evening, we took them out of the crate, and out to the side yard, they seemed totaly bewildered to be in such a strange new land and climate. The evening - mild by our standards, must have seemed like the dead of winter to them. The littlest puppy came to my outstretched hand, shivering, and laid her head in it, looking up at me with eyes only puppies possess - and the deal was done.
After a couple days on medications at Alex's house, she came home this morning. She's been bound to me at the ankles, and cries whenever I'm out of sight. In a couple of days, she'll be completely in charge around here, no doubt.
Please allow me to introduce Poco, the little calle perrita (street puppy) who has found a home in my heart:
